Ligiades

In 1943 my mother climbed the hill of Tsiliki in the area of Pera Loutsa. Suddenly she heard gunshots, people screaming and then there was a lot of smoke from a fire. The fire completely burned the village of Ligiades. What happened in the end? A phalanx of German occupation troops based in Ioannina climbed the road to Mitsikeli and killed those found in the village. Few were rescued, especially those who had gone for their agricultural work. Since then, every year a memorial prayer is held in honor of the villagers who perished in such a horrible and unjust way.
