In 1965, my grandfather Dimitris was 15 years old and he went to the night school that was housed in the Kaplanio school, as he worked during the day. The school started at 19:30 and ended at 22:30 and the differences from the other schools were that the students graduated after 7 years and their ages ranged between 15-45 years old. I was also told a funny incident that marked him: At that time the society of Ioannina was small but also strict and the inhabitants knew each other. So, during a break that my grandfather was smoking, a family friend who saw him, gave him a cuff so he hasn’t smoked ever since!
