Who does not know “Maria delle sgagliozze”? A life spent frying slices of polenta in hot oil and selling them on the doorstep. They are a true symbol of the Bari cuisine together with focaccia (la fecazz), panzerotti and popizze, which are pancakes made with the same dough as pizza.
The elders also remember a gentleman called “Zze Vète de le Sgagliozze” who sold the rags on the corner of Piazza Prefettura.
