In the late 1970s in coastal and lakeside areas such as Ioannina the naval week was celebrated. During this week there were many events such as water skiing, racing, etc. The event that took place on the last day of the week was the decoration of fishing boats with paper lanterns. They tied all the boats one behind the other and after sunset they went around the lake, passed through Perama and Limnopoula and reached back to the Island.
