Piazza Mercantile is located in the ancient village. This centuries-old square in Bari was the center of the community’s economic and civil life. After this important square, Via Manfredi begins, today full of clubs and restaurants. At the beginning of via Manfredi we find an important sculptural group called Colonna Infame, because bad payers were exposed to the public here. Next to the column we find a lion (taken from a Roman tomb) which symbolizes power and justice. The column instead symbolizes the city of Bari, protected precisely by the lion.
This important work is one of the most appreciated monuments of our ancient village.
