Crittogramma

On the right, in the Basilica of San Nicola, there is a silver altar which in the past covered the tomb of the Saint and which was donated by a tsar in the fourteenth century. On it there is a mysterious inscription, known as the “cryptogram of St. Nicholas”. If you pay attention, what looks like a decorative frame is actually a sequence of 642 letters that apparently do not form words. Many believe that it is an encrypted message. It is a real mystery! It is not known if it is a message from the Knights Templar, a request for help in arms, a reference to the Holy Grail or just a decoration made with random letters. Who knows who will find out!
