In Piazza Mercantile there is a white marble column called “infamous column”. Many years ago, those who bought something, but did not pay for it, were tied to that column so that everyone knew it. In the past, in fact, that square was very popular with merchants, who bought and sold goods of all kinds right there. Many, therefore, passed through the column and stopped to look and make fun of those who had been tied up.
