Boudroumaki

Near the rear entrance of the Castle, there is the hammam or boudroumaki as we called it. There we gathered, the whole group, and played cards, “stouki”, “twenty-one”, “thirty-one” with money, pennies, fifties and drachmas. It was a hiding place. We were climbing from the back and found ourselves at the bottom of the hammam. I, who did not know how to play well with the help of my brother, had won a good amount. It must have been 18 drachmas, I think. At one point we heard a voice shouting loudly “police, police!” We left everything as it was, even our socks and jackets and ran. As you can understand it was a lie, a “beard” as we used to call it then, but I had won, because in the end I might have lost even what I had already won.
