To thank the Venetians who had saved Bari from the Saracens, the city is said to have built the church which is located in the old town: San Marco dei Veneziani. But historians say that in reality the church was wanted by Venetian merchants who wanted to continue praying their San Marco when they stopped in Bari during their commercial trips to the East.
